Unearthing The City’s Hidden Gateway

Most urban spaces of today have lost their identity due to poor spatial planning strategies adopted following industrialisation and current urbanisation trends, rendering them devoid of any character and causing residents to feel detached from the place. The site is on the banks of the Porter Brook and forms a primary gateway to the city centre. Through investigation we uncovered the layers of history buried under the current development which only remain as folktales amongst residents. Our project aims to reveal and enhance what already exists and interarate it within a new progressive public setting which is vibrant and welcoming, thus restoring the gateway into the city centre. We thank several stakeholders such as the Sheaf and Porter Brook Society and present building owners and residents for their input into the project, collaborating and supporting our vision for the site.
