Rising out of Lake Geneva, joining various waterways, crossing fields, pastures, orchards and numerous densely populated towns, a winding, rugged line over 100km long separates the canton of Geneva in Switzerland from France. This border line, established in the 19th century, distinguishes the two states and, from the outset, established a territorial separation.
