Carving a way

The project takes place on the shoreline of the Mediterranean Sea. It is a balanced intervention that aims to reveal an old quarry site that has been abandoned since the 1960s. Natural regeneration has taken its course and a hardwood Mediterranean forest of olive and pine trees has taken root in the shallow and disturbed substrate at the foot of the quarry wall.

On the other edge: the seafront. Heavily anthropized by a retaining wall in the 1950s and degraded by years of erosion: leading to the spill of landfill soil and rock debris on to the fragile marine ecosystem at its foot. Our ambition is to protect and amplify the natural dynamics that are taking place. Similar to an ecotone, our linear proposal occurs between these two extremes, bridging the neighboring ecosystems and creating public areas for leisure and interaction with nature.
